Lootable Lorebook Furnishings
in The Elder Scrolls Online
With Update 40, The Elder Scrolls Online introduced a host of amazing new features, from the Infinite Archive to Grand Master Crafting Stations. But they also released an interesting new system that’s been puzzling ESO Housers ever since. Lootable lorebook furnishings that rely on a character’s Eidetic Memory knowledge to be able to find them. Beyond this, we haven’t been officially told much about this new system.
What we know:
The Update 40 Patch Notes tell us that there are now 65 new interactable book furnishings that can be acquired either by looting or through a vendor in the Infinite Archive. Also, 4 new interactable book furnishings from “treasure chests” in each Clockwork City, Coldharbour, Gold Coast, Northern Elsweyr, Southern Elsweyr, Summerset, and Wrothgar. Plus 3 new interactable book furnishings in Hew’s Bane.
And, of course, we also know that to find these book furnishings, the character you are playing needs to have read the corresponding book in the wild. This means that if you run Infinite Archive with a character that doesn’t normally run around and read books, you may want to reconsider traversing Apocrypha and the Telvanni Peninsula and seek out the lorebooks. Eidetic memory is not account-wide (yet, I’m still hoping!), so we need to keep this in mind when farming book furnishings.
What we think we know:
First, it appears that “treasure chests” are chests from treasure maps ONLY and NOT overland chests in each zone. Big thanks to @BerylBones for help in confirming this. She farmed 100 overland chests with no results, but got 4 books from 10 treasure maps.
It also appears that the 5 lootable books from Bastion Nymics and 21 from the Scrivener’s Hall vault chests may follow this same rule. As such, I’ve included them on my spreadsheet of lootable lorebook furnishings.
Notes:
You don’t open up Eidetic Memory on your account until at least one character has finished the Mage’s Guild questline. It is uncertain if you can still read these books in the wild and get the applicable book furnishings. I will test this further on an alt account.
You can bypass reading a book in the wild if you read the same book in a player’s home. This only works for Eidetic Memory, and not Mage’s Guild books (Shalidor’s Library).
Since Eidetic Memory is character-specific, carefully consider which characters you use for Scrivener’s Hall, digging up treasure maps, etc., and make sure they’ve read books in the corresponding zones. Use my spreadsheet to determine which books these are and where to find them.

This spreadsheet is in Read-Only mode. To make a copy for personal use, click on “Make a copy” from the File drop-down menu.
This is a work-in-progress. I will add details of where to find each lorebook over time.
